The bases of Soda-lime is the mixture of Calcium Hydroxide and Sodium Hydroxide, Soda-lime can absorb the carbon dioxide of the air and then become to the solid Calcium Carbonate or Sodium Carbonate, it also can absorb the moisture at the same time, so Soda-lime have drying function.

The density of Soda-lime is bigger than else, so unit volume Soda-lime is heavier than unit volume Lithium Hydroxide, (the specific gravity of Lithium Hydroxide is 0.4g/ml, the specific gravity of Soda-lime is 3.3g/ml.) therefore absorbing unit mass carbon dioxide, much more Soda-lime is needed comparing with Lithium Hydroxide, but the advantage of Soda-lime is very low-cost, it can be used in medical equipments and emergency systems widely.
